Ambit Energy’s Direct Selling Opportunity

Ambit Energy was recently ranked as the 13th largest company on the Direct Selling News (DSN) Global 100 and No. 8 on the DSN’s North America 50. What do these rankings mean, and why does Ambit Energy operate under a direct sales business model? The reasons are a reflection of the company’s core values.

Ambit Energy Rankings

Ambit Energy’s annual revenue totaled $1.37 billion in 2015, making it the largest direct seller of energy in the world for the fourth consecutive year. The company first appeared in these rankings back in 2010 when the inaugural DSN Global 100 list was released, ranking 38th a mere four years into the company’s existence. Just three years later, Ambit claimed the title of largest direct seller of energy in the world.

Today, Ambit provides service in 16 deregulated states, plus Washington, D.C., and counting. More than anything, these rankings are a reflection of the hard work of the Independent Consultants—people just like you. Without these dedicated Consultant teams, Ambit Energy would not proudly serve the more than one million Customers that it does today.

Why Direct Selling?

Direct selling, simply put, is an integral part of the Ambit Energy story. That story began 10 years ago over lunch at a sandwich shop in Dallas, Texas. Co-Founders, CEO Jere Thompson, Jr., and CMO Chris Chambless knew from their experience in the telecom industry that a direct sales business model could be applied to the retail energy market. They understood the importance of an information technology support system for Consultants and the power of great marketing for a business. Those ideas are reflected in the company to this day through the PowerZone Consultant portal, BlueNet® Customer service billing platform and a strong digital and social media presence. All of this is also reflected in the Ambit name, which means “one’s circle or scope of influence.”

At the end of the day, Ambit’s marketing dollars are going into the hands of hard-working Consultants, instead of the pockets of a major advertising agency or TV network. That’s because Ambit’s Consultant team holds the most power to grow Ambit Energy and save others money through personal relationships and word-of-mouth marketing. Ambit’s philosophy is that the direct selling business model rewards loyalty more than any other sales structure.
